Book a Private Jet to Riga Airport
Some 13 kilometres from the capital of Latvia and well connected to the city centre, Riga Airport (RIX) is the most important airport in the Baltic States. Passengers of private jets can enjoy a comprehensive VIP service at the Latvian capital’s airport.
The History of Riga Airport
Riga Airport was opened in 1974 under the auspices of the Russian aviation line Aeroflot as an alternative to the older Spilve Airport. After Latvia regained its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, the airport passed into Latvian ownership. The airport is still owned by the state and is managed by the Latvian Ministry of Transport. In order to keep the airport competitive, extensive refurbishment work was carried out in 2001. Today, Riga RIX Airport has three terminals: A, B and C. Due to high usage charges, the airport experienced only moderate growth for a long time. However, traffic to the airport has risen dramatically in recent years after a sharp drop in prices.

Riga RIX is the most important of the three airports in Latvia. The airport is situated approximately 13 kilometres southwest of Riga in the Mārupe district. Riga Airport is an ideal starting point for flights to neighbouring Russia, but also for flights within Europe and intercontinental flights further afield. The most popular destinations for flights from Riga include:
- Riga ✈ Moscow Vnukovo (UUWW / VKO) : approx. 1 hour 30 minutes
- Riga ✈ Nuremberg (EDDN / NUE) : approx. 1 hour 50 minutes
- Riga ✈ St Petersburg (ULLI / LED) : approx. 1 hour
- Riga ✈ Moscow Sheremetyevo (UUEE / SVO) : approx. 1 hour 30 minutes
- Riga ✈ Nice (LFMN / NCE) : approx. 2 hours 45 minutes
A business flight from Riga to Moscow Vnukovo (VKO) takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes. From the airport, which is about 30 kilometres southwest of the Russian capital, transfers by car take 40 minutes to reach the city centre. Due to Moscow’s notorious traffic congestion, we recommend booking a helicopter shuttle. Flying on a private jet from Riga to Nuremberg (NUE) takes a little less than two hours. For transfers to the city centre or the surrounding area, taxis are available 24 hours a day in front of the arrival hall. Alternatively, passengers arriving at Nuremberg can hire a private car. A flight from Riga to St Petersburg (LED) takes about an hour. A charter flight from Riga to Moscow-Sheremetyevo (SVO), the largest airport in the Moscow metropolitan area, takes 1 hour and 30 minutes. Transfers by helicopter, which can be booked directly via the airport, are particularly fast and comfortable and avoid the Russian capital’s traffic. The flight time from Riga to Nice (NCE) is slightly less than three hours. Nice Airport is about 7 kilometres from the city centre. For a quick and pleasant transfer to Nice or to Monaco, a helicopter shuttle is available at Nice Airport, which only takes a few minutes to the Principality.
The volume of passengers at Riga Airport has risen sharply in recent years. Every year, RIX Airport serves more than 5.4 million passengers. In 2016, over 68,000 flight movements were recorded. In order to ensure a pleasant journey, numerous services are available for charter flight passengers at Riga Airport. For example, there are several lounges and conference rooms available in the VIP centre. In addition, various VIP memberships provide a comprehensive service. VIP services at Riga Airport include:
- Free access to the VIP terminal
- Catering options
- Porter service to private jet
